A Virulence Associated Siderophore Importer Reduces Antimicrobial Susceptibility of Klebsiella pneumoniae

چکیده

The accessory genomes of many pathogenic bacteria include ABC transporters that scavenge metal by siderophore uptake and contribute to antimicrobial resistance multidrug efflux. There are mechanistic recently recognized structural similarities between importer proteins efflux pumps. Here we investigated the influence YbtPQ on Klebsiella pneumoniae . is encoded in yersiniabactin cluster a prevalent mobile genetic element ICEKp, also common pathogenicity islands Escherichia coli Yersinia species, where enhances virulence. Deletion ICEKp increased susceptibility K. all antimicrobials tested. mechanism was dependent may involve efflux, since it affected inhibitor reserpine. naturally highly mobile, indeed genome as reservoir genes for emergence hospital outbreak strains transfer other Gram-negative pathogens. Introduction or plasmid encoding YbtPQ, E. decreased its broad range antimicrobials. Thus confirmed importer, rapidly evolving capable interspecies transfer, have secondary function exporting

Antibiotic Susceptibility Pattern and Distribution of Virulence Factors Among Klebsiella pneumoniae Isolated from Healthy Volunteers

Background and Objective: The healthy people’s fecal flora in the community represents a large potential reservoir. Therefore, the current study aimed to detect antibiotic resistance patterns and virulence factors in Klebsiella pneumoniae isolated from healthy volunteers’ feces. Materials and Methods: Three hundred and fifty stool specimens were collected from sales rep healthy individuals ref...

The Antimicrobial Susceptibility of Klebsiella pneumoniae from Community Settings in Taiwan, a Trend Analysis

Drug-resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae, especially extended-spectrum β-lactamase (ESBL)- and/or AmpC β-lactamase-producing strains, is an emerging problem worldwide. However, few data focusing on drug susceptibility of K. pneumoniae from community is available. In this study, we analyzed 1016 K. pneumoniae isolates from outpatients or those visiting emergency rooms collected during 2002-2012 from...

Analysis of the networks controlling the antimicrobial-peptide-dependent induction of Klebsiella pneumoniae virulence factors.

Antimicrobial peptides (APs) impose a threat to the survival of pathogens, and it is reasonable to postulate that bacteria have developed strategies to counteract them. Polymyxins are becoming the last resort to treat infections caused by multidrug-resistant Gram-negative bacteria and, similar to APs, they interact with the anionic lipopolysaccharide. Given that polymyxins and APs share the ini...

Diversity, virulence, and antimicrobial resistance of the KPC-producing Klebsiella pneumoniae ST307 clone

The global spread of Klebsiella pneumoniae producing Klebsiella pneumoniae carbapenemase (KPC) has been mainly associated with the dissemination of high-risk clones. In the last decade, hospital outbreaks involving KPC-producing K. pneumoniae have been predominantly attributed to isolates belonging to clonal group (CG) 258. However, results of recent epidemiological analysis indicate that KPC-p...

Klebsiella pneumoniae with multiple antimicrobial resistance.

A Klebsiella pneumoniae strain was isolated from the urine of a patient at one of the centers participating in the 2001 edition of the MYSTIC program in Brazil. The initial phenotypic findings of the isolated K. pneumoniae presented an unusual MIC of 8 microg/mL to meropenem, 2 microg/mL to imipenem, elevated MICs to broad spectrum cephalosporins (ceftazidime/cefotaxime/cefepime MIC > 256 micro...
